Hola Mohalla is the festival of Khalsa’s pride, martial arts, and spiritual colors. ਹੋਲਾ ਮਹੱਲਾ ਖਾਲਸੇ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਨ, ਸ਼ਸਤਰ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਰੂਹਾਨੀ ਰੰਗਤ ਦਾ ਸੰਗਮ ਹੈ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਨੰਦਪੁਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਧਰਤੀ ‘ਤੇ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਹਾਦਰੀ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਦਿਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ|
1. Why Guru Ji Started Hola Mohalla? (ਹੋਲੇ ਮਹੱਲੇ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਕਿਉਂ ਹੋਈ?)In 1701, Guru Gobind Singh Ji started this tradition at Anandpur Sahib to transform the idle play of Holi into a display of strength. ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੀ ਹੋਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋਕ ਨਸ਼ੇ, ਹੁੱਲੜਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਫਜ਼ੂਲ ਮਜ਼ਾਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਾਲਸੇ ਨੂੰ “ਹੋਲਾ” (attack) ਅਤੇ “ਮਹੱਲਾ” (place of attack) ਦਾ ਸੰਕਲਪ ਦਿੱਤਾ। He gave the weak a heart like a lion and taught them to live with self-respect.
2. Bhai Nand Lal Ji and the Colors of Love (ਭਾਈ ਨੰਦ ਲਾਲ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਿਆਰ)Bhai Nand Lal Ji, the great poet of Guru Darbar, described the spiritual aura of this day in his ghazals. ਗੁਰੂ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਦੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਕਵੀ ਭਾਈ ਨੰਦ ਲਾਲ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਗਜ਼ਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। * Natural Gulal: Guru Ji used natural colors mixed with musk, camphor, and sandalwood. ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਸ਼ਕ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਦਲ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ਬੂ ਸੀ। * The Divine Touch: Guru Ji personally applied Gulal on Bhai Nand Lal Ji’s forehead on the banks of the Satluj river. ਸਤਲੁਜ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਖੁਦ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ‘ਤੇ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਲਗਾਇਆ। Bhai Sahib writes that one who sees the Guru playing Hola with the Khalsa achieves the real purpose of life.
3. Suthra Shah Ji: The ‘Nazar Battu’ of Khalsa (ਸੁਥਰਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਖਾਲਸੇ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ)There is a beautiful story of Suthra Shah Ji from history. ਹੋਲਾ ਮਹੱਲਾ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਸ਼ਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ, ਤਾਂ ਸੁਥਰਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਚਿਹਰੇ ‘ਤੇ ਕਾਲਖ (black soot) ਮਲ ਲਈ।When Guru Ji asked him the reason, he innocently replied:> “Maharaj, the Khalsa looks so radiant today that I am afraid someone’s ‘evil eye’ might fall on them. So, I am acting as a ‘Nazar Battu’ for my brothers.” ਮਹਾਰਾਜ, ਖਾਲਸਾ ਇੰਨਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ‘ਨਜ਼ਰ ਵੱਟੂ’ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਘੁੰਮ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਵੇ। Guru Ji was deeply moved by his pure love.>
